Welcome!

Hello, and welcome!

I’m an aspiring science-fiction author, and in just a few more months I’ll release my first book, The Gap Year, on Amazon via Kindle Direct and IngramSpark.

Edit: It’s finally finished! If you’re a fan of time travel, ancient Greece, and giant intelligent border collie physicists, check it out!

So, it turns out that self-publishing a book is hard. I thought I was almost done once the manuscript was finished and edited. But between commissioning cover art, contracting out the book design, and learning all the zillion things I didn’t know, it took me about another year of effort to get a finished book into peoples’ hands or onto their screens. I’ll blog about that process here, in case anyone out there is interested in learning from the gobs of mistakes I made.

I’ve been an avid science-fiction and fantasy reader since childhood, to the point where my office walls are paneled with the evidence of a lifetime of dorkdom:

I’ll blog about that too, with an emphasis on ideas and themes, rather than straight-up book reviews. Now that I’ve sweated through my own book creation process, the last thing I want to do is slag off some poor author’s work. So I’m going to concentrate on things that I’m excited about, and try to get that positivity out into the world.

Thank  you so much for reading!
